It’s this frustration where you know you should see other movies but you wish you could quit that one movie you’ve seen over and over… Heavy Traffic is that movie for me because I’m unsure whether it’s still my favourite movie but I’m worried it isn’t because I might see more movies which could be better but you have to take that risk.

Still, Heavy Traffic is the best depiction of the creative process I’ve ever seen in cinema. The grit and the honesty makes it unable to be replaced. And my frustration comes from not being able to find any other movies remotely like it, but that’s what makes it so great. I’d like it if Bakshi toned down the crude stuff a bit and just had enough grit but not too much.

but I’ve seen almost none of the crap people claim happens constantly in the SJ tags. It’s mostly links and from what few arguments I’ve seen, it’s mostly teenagers yelling at each other. It might just not be a good period, but pretty much every argument I’ve seen has just been a bunch of people grasping at straws to try and vilify the other person.

I think I’m in way over my head here. Only time will tell.

It’s taboo to admit that you’re lonely. You can make jokes about it, of course. You can tell people that you spend most of your time with Netflix or that you haven’t left the house today and you might not even go outside tomorrow. Ha ha, funny. But rarely do you ever tell people about the true depths of your loneliness, about how you feel more and more alienated from your friends each passing day and you’re not sure how to fix it. It seems like everyone is just better at living than you are.

A part of you knew this was going to happen. Growing up, you just had this feeling that you wouldn’t transition well to adult life, that you’d fall right through the cracks. And look at you now. La di da, it’s happening.

Your mother, your father, your grandparents: they all look at you like you’re some prized jewel and they tell you over and over again just how lucky you are to be young and have your whole life ahead of you. “Getting old ain’t for sissies,” your father tells you wearily.

You wish they’d stop saying these things to you because all it does is fill you with guilt and panic. All it does is remind you of how much you’re not taking advantage of your youth.

You want to kiss all kinds of different people, you want to wake up in a stranger’s bed maybe once or twice just to see if it feels good to feel nothing, you want to have a group of friends that feels like a tribe, a bonafide family. You want to go from one place to the next constantly and have your weekends feel like one long epic day. You want to dance to stupid music in your stupid room and have a nice job that doesn’t get in the way of living your life too much. You want to be less scared, less anxious, and more willing. Because if you’re closed off now, you can only imagine what you’ll be like later.

Every day you vow to change some aspect of your life and every day you fail. At this point, you’re starting to question your own power as a human being. As of right now, your fears have you beat. They’re the ones that are holding your twenties hostage.

Stop thinking that everyone is having more sex than you, that everyone has more friends than you, that everyone out is having more fun than you. Not because it’s not true (it might be!) but because that kind of thinking leaves you frozen. You’ve already spent enough time feeling like you’re stuck, like you’re watching your life fall through you like a fast dissolve and you’re unable to hold on to anything.

I don’t know if you ever get better. I don’t know if a person can just wake up one day and decide to be an active participant in their life. I’d like to think so. I’d like to think that people get better each and every day but that’s not really true. People get worse and it’s their stories that end up getting forgotten because we can’t stand an unhappy ending. The sick have to get better. Our normalcy depends upon it.

You have to value yourself. You have to want great things for your life. This sort of shit doesn’t happen overnight but it can and will happen if you want it.

Do you want it bad enough? Does the fear of being filled with regret in your thirties trump your fear of living today?

We shall see.

This article is interesting in itself for its subject of the digital economy. But I favourited it for a different reason: for the first time I can recall the Japanese term for hikikomori, or more politely, NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) has been used in an English language, Western context.

I’m jolly excited about this new adventure with the English language, aside from the terror this article inspires. Anime nerds like me tried to warn people about the NHK conspiracy long ago, but it’s too late. The NEET conspiracy is here already!

Dorky Internet people are a post subculture subculture. It’s a generational group so large and potentially creatively renewing of our culture that many don’t know they’re part of it or even name it. Troll roller is the best I’ve come up with so far as a word to describe it, rolling with the trolls and the dorks online despite many other entertainment options being available, because we’re addicted to interacting with people, even ones we don’t know. I’m gonna look into this, and represent it in my literary works.

Watching old Looney Tunes shorts.

Why hasn’t Tumblr found more Looney Tunes GIFs? I love Disney as much as the next cartoon watching dork but a little Looney Tunes GIF action would be appreciated.

I love the old timey vaudeville look of these shorts that offer a 1950s Old Hollywood, yet timeless aesthetic. The drawing style is very different to what you see in Disney but it’s not cheap or lazy and lacking detail, in fact it lends itself to comedy very well in a way I don’t think turned up in Disney till the Renaissance.

Also, best use of an Albuquerque joke I’ve seen apart from Weird Al Yankovic.

And this thing is full of drugs, and Reaganism, and LSD REAGANISM RAINBOWS as far as I can tell. This is both really rad and really terrifying, every page is like a Patton Oswalt joke about the far future waiting to happen, and the visual style is so 1980s that my 1990s born eyeballs may need an optometrist visit once I’m done. I’m reading it on my iPad, which only makes the retro futurism more immersive. I highly recommend it.

So I watched the Phil Spector documentary and he was going on about how Good Vibrations was “an edit record!” and how Psycho was a great movie but not a great story because it was edited too much compared to Rebecca. So I ended up rewriting large sections of my university essay due tomorrow in the Spector style so it didn’t look scrappily cut and pasted from my other notes. It’s no edit essay! Phil Spector would be so proud of me in jail right now!

According to the International Business Times, an MP for the ultra-far right Jobbik party in Hungary has said that the Auschwitz concentration camp museum “may not reflect real facts”…

During a discussion in parliament over a proposal to facilitate visits by teenagers to the former Nazi camp in Poland, Tamas Gaudi-Nagy said schools should not be “forced to take up such an expensive venture” for a site whose historical accuracy is, he believes, doubtful.

Jobbik is Hungary’s third largest party and won 17 percent of the vote in the last elections (2010) with an anti-Semitic, anti-EU and anti-Roma agenda. Hungary has one of the largest Jewish populations in the EU.

Gaudi-Nagy’s statements sparked criticism from the country’s ruling Fidesz party. Its leader, Antal Rogan, said: “Nobody has the right to question the Holocaust, the suffering and death of millions of people.”

Registered in 2003, Jobbik has become known for insulting Jews and the country’s 700,000-strong Roma population. It founded the Hungarian Guard, an unarmed vigilante group which reminds many of far-right groups during World War II.

“We have an internal problem that is Gypsy crime and an external threat: the Jewish invasion,” one of the group’s leaders, Jozsef Inancsi, told Channel 4 News.
